An additional episode, Spear of Destiny, was released as a stand-alone retail title through FormGen. The game was released through Apogee in two sets of three episodes under the shareware model, in which the first episode is released for free to drive interest in paying for the rest. Wolfenstein 3D features artwork by Adrian Carmack and sound effects and music by Bobby Prince. He and designer Tom Hall designed the game, built on Carmack's engine, to be fast and violent, unlike other computer games on the market at the time. After a design session prompted the company to shift from the family-friendly Keen to a more violent theme, programmer John Romero suggested remaking the 1981 stealth shooter Castle Wolfenstein as a fast-paced action game. In mid-1991, programmer John Carmack experimented with making a fast 3D game engine by restricting the gameplay and viewpoint to a single plane, producing Hovertank 3D and Catacomb 3-D as prototypes. Wolfenstein 3D was the second major release by id Software, after the Commander Keen series of episodes. The player traverses each of the game's levels to find an elevator to the next level or kill a final boss, fighting Nazi soldiers, dogs, and other enemies with knives and a variety of guns. In Wolfenstein 3D, the player assumes the role of Allied spy William "B.J." Blazkowicz during World War II as he escapes from the Nazi German prison Castle Wolfenstein and carries out a series of crucial missions against the Nazis. Originally released on for MS-DOS, it was inspired by the 1981 Muse Software video game Castle Wolfenstein, and is the third installment in the Wolfenstein series. Wolfenstein 3D is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Apogee Software and FormGen. This level is one of three levels (the others being Episode 1/Floor 10 and Episode 2/Floor 9) in which killing a non-boss enemy has a one in 256 chance of producing a fart sound instead of the regular death sound. This is a fan port of Wolfenstein 3D for PC ported on the Sega Genesis ,it was created by gasega68k. If you had opened the western secret before the northern one and you had pressed on secrets n.9 and n.10, you would have been unable to go back to the main room immediately, because of the wall blocking the northern secret. If you press on them, you'll come back to the main room of the level. On an apparently dead end are two secrets. On the northern part of the map follow the right path. Behind them is a pair of secrets that lead to the northern side of the map.ġ1-12. Walk down the LONG hallway of crosses until you get to a room full of crosses guarded by some SS. Kill all the mutants and find the only door in their room. Go back to the start of the western part of the map and open the other door. Push a wall behind a med kit to reveal ammo clips, a chaingun and two one ups.ĩ-10. Follow a hallway with blood, giblets and dead guards until you find two doors, both leading to a room with several mutants and med kits. Press on the western wall and open the door on your left. In this new room are two tables: on the left of the left table is another secret, leading to crown and ammunitions.Ĩ. Kill a handful of guards and open any of the two doors in their room. Walk down the hallway behind it until you come across two doors: open the left one. Behind them is another secret, with some crowns in it.ħ. As you press on the eastern secret wall you'll see ammo clips. The northern secret is blocked by another secret wall.Ħ. On the northern, southern, western and eastern side of the first room you enter is a secret.ĥ. Nontheless, the player will find a sizable number of health items.įor a detailed walkthrough, read the section about the secrets.ġ-4. On the other hand, this map can be kinda tricky if you want to get 100% of everything: as said above, there is a very large count of mutants, and even if they're usually not placed in traps, they can be deadly. Since about 90% of the entire map is composed by secret areas, it is pretty easy to finish it under half a minute: you just have to exit the starting room, kill the mutants on both sides of the new room, find another door and kill the final bunch of mutants. This floor is also notable for the extremely long winding passage way on the north side of the map which is filled with crosses. Judging from the blue walls everywhere, the weird blue-azure ceiling and the music, this map seems to be something like secret underground dungeon (and in fact in a room in the south-western side of the level there are several cages).
